Growing Degree Days

Temperature readings are taken on an hourly basis.  Degree Days are calculated by subtracting 50 degrees from each hourly measurement and then averaging the difference of the 24 measurements in a single day.   Only positive degree days are applied towards the season total, negative degree days are ignored.
